A biennial odorous plant with a thick rhizome and a furrowed branched stem. The leaves are large, twice-thrice-feathered, with large sheaths. The flowers are small, greenish-white, collected in globular multipath large complex umbels. Height 120 – 250 cm.
The time of flowering. June-July.
Distribution. It is found everywhere in the forest and forest-steppe zones of the European part and in Western Siberia.
Habitat. It grows in wet places, along the banks of rivers and lakes, along ditches, on the outskirts of swamps, in water meadows, clearings and edges of swampy forests, in willows.

The time of collection. Late autumn.
Rhizomes and roots contain essential oil, which includes arellandrene, resins, wax, bitter and tannins, hydrocarotin (angelicin) and organic acids (angelic, valerian and acetic).
Angelica has expectorant, diaphoretic, diuretic, anti-fermentation properties. Infusion of rhizomes and roots increases the activity of the digestive glands and tones the cardiovascular and central nervous systems. An infusion of rhizomes and roots is used for dyspepsia (indigestion) and bloating of the intestines, colic, diarrhea, urinary retention and bronchitis. Alcohol tincture of rhizomes, used for rubbing with rheumatism, gout, muscle pain.
20 g of rhizomes and roots infuse for 8 hours in 1 liter of water, strain. Take 1/2 glass 3-4 times a day.
