Description

An annual widespread weed with a rosette of pinnate leaves and large lobes, small white flowers and feature triangular pods. Height 10 – 50 cm.

The time of flowering. May-August.

Distribution. It is found almost throughout North Europe.

Habitat. It grows in fields, gardens, along roads and near buildings.

The part used. Grass (stems, leaves, flowers) with green pods.

Chemical composition

The herb contains choline, acetylcholine, tyramine, Inositol, hissopine rhamnoglucoside, tannins, bursic, fumaric, malic, citric and tartaric acids, a lot of potassium, vitamins C, K, phytoncides and essential oil. The active substance of the shepherd's bag is considered to be vitamin K, which accelerates blood clotting.

Application

Shepherd's purse as a medicinal plant was known in Ancient Greece and Rome. The plant has long been widely used in folk medicine in various countries. The shepherd's purse stops various internal bleeding well, causes uterine contractions, lowers blood pressure, narrows peripheral blood vessels, stops diarrhea, and increases urine exit. The infusion of the shepherd's purse is taken for diseases of the liver, kidneys and bladder, liver colic, kidney stones, diarrhea, fever, and especially as a hemostatic agent for various internal and postpartum bleeding.

In scientific medicine, water infusion of the shepherd's purse is used inside as a hemostatic agent in obstetric practice after childbirth and in gynecology, for excessive menstrual bleeding and metrorrhagia. It is clinically proven that the infusion gives a good therapeutic effect in the treatment of acute and chronic kidney inflammation. Externally, the infusion of the shepherd's purse is successfully used for local baths, washings, lotions and compresses for bruises, tendon inflammation, light wounds and skin damage. Spring rosettes of young basal leaves of the shepherd's purse are used for cooking soups, spring vitamin salad and as a delicious filling for pies.

Method of application

1. 1 tablespoon of dry grass shepherd's purse infuse for 2 hours in 1 cup of boiling water, strain. Take 1 tablespoon 4 times a day (especially as a hemostatic). The infusion is also used as an external remedy for bruises and wounds.

2. 3 teaspoons of herbs infuse for 8 hours in 1 cup of cold boiled water, strain. Take 1-2 tablespoons 3-4 times a day.
