Description

An annual weed of the tumbleweed type with spreading-branched stems. Leaves are small, alternate, fleshy, thread-like, prickly. Fruits-nuts, surrounded by a membranous perianth. The whole plant becomes very prickly by autumn. Height 20 – 100 cm.

The time of flowering. July-September.

Distribution. It grows in the southern and South-Eastern parts of the steppe and semi-desert zones.

Habitat. It grows on sandy soil in crops, in deposits, along roads.

The part used. Grass (stems, leaves, flowers).

In folk medicine, the water infusion of the plant is used for General weakness of the body, as a light laxative and diaphoretic and as an anthelmintic agent.
