Description

Mate-tea is made by crushed leaves of the Paraguayan Holly tree. The traditional drink of South American Indians was brought to Europe by the Spanish conquistadors, but still remains quite an exotic drink. Tea has a rather unusual and pleasant taste.

Use of mate tea

How to drink mate tea?!

The classic method of mate involves using a Cup made by a bottle gourd (calabash) and a tube made of metal, reed or wood. There is an opinion that the use of mate through a tube is explained by the desire to rid the teeth of the harmful effects of this drink. This is a widespread misconception that has no basis in fact. In fact, this method of use is explained by the following: the particles of mate tea are very small and very light, so they do not sink to the bottom of the cup even during the brewing process (as it happens with ordinary tea) and constantly fall into the mouth. Drinking mate is similar to meditation, so the constant spitting of particles of tea brought down the mood of contemplative Indians. To prevent this problem,  this method of using this type of tea was invented.

In the modern realities it is possible to use disposable filter bags or you can buy a calabash gourd and a plastic tube (bombilla) and drink tea in an absolutely authentic way. The classic method of welding involves filling the vessel 1/3 with a dry sheet and pouring it first with water at room temperature, and then hot - about 80 degrees. Tea can be drunk in a couple of minutes, adding boiling water several times during use.

Contraindications of mate tea

This tea is contraindicated for people with kidney stones and gallbladder, pregnant and lactating women, as well as people who take medications with theophylline and theobromine in the composition, and also have an individual intolerance to these substances.
