Description

Cornflower blue (lat. Centauгеа cyanus) - an annual herbaceous gray-green plant. Leaves are lanceolate-linear, lower-slightly lobed, upper-entire. Flower baskets are single, beautiful, blue, marginal flowers are funnel-shaped, median-tubular. Height 30 – 60 cm. The applied part is the edge flowers from flower baskets and "seeds".

Chemical composition

The Flowers contain a blue colorant glycoside cyanine, belonging to the group of anthocyanin pigments, bitter glucoside centaurin, chicory glucoside, mineral salts and other substances.

Application

Cornflower is an ancient medicinal plant. The tincture of the marginal flowers of flower baskets has a diuretic, diaphoretic, choleretic, light laxative, anti-schizophrenic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, analgesic and wound-healing effect. The infusion of flowers is used for colds, coughs, constipation, stomach pain, kidney and bladder diseases and is taken orally as an antipyretic, diuretic, diaphoretic and a means for heart palpitations. Cornflower flowers are part of some diuretic collections. Externally, the infusion of flowers is used in the form of eye drops and eyewash for eye diseases. Crushed "seeds" of cornflower sprinkle warts for their destruction, and crushed leaves are applied to wounds for their healing. The flowers give a beautiful blue-blue color.

Method of usage

1 teaspoon of marginal blue cornflower flowers to insist 1 hour in a closed container in 1 Cup of boiling water, then cool and strain. Take 1/4 of a glass 3 times a day 15-20 minutes before meals.
