Description

In Russia, there are more than 60 species of rosehip. Species of the genus rosehip (rose) are divided into 8 groups — sections. Most are rich in vitamin C rose hips cinnamon-sections — spammee.

Flowering time. May-August.

Habitat. Cinnamon and dog Rose bushes grow on river floodplains, meadows, among shrubs, forest clearings, edges and ravines.

Applied part. Fruits, seeds, flowers, leaves and roots.

Harvest time. "Fruits" and "seeds" are collected in August – September, flowers and leaves — during flowering, roots — in autumn and early spring.

Chemical composition

Fruits contain sugars (about 18%), pectin substances (3.7%), tannins (up to 4.5%), citric acid (about 2%), malic acid and other organic acids, vitamin C (on average 2 – 3%, or 2000 – 3000 mg), carotene (12 – 18 mg), vitamins B2 (about 0.03 mg), K (up to 40 biological units), P (citrine), flavonol glucosides kaempferol and quercetin, the pigments lycopene and rubixanthin.

Application

In folk medicine of Siberia, a decoction of fruits is used for colds, and a decoction of flower petals with honey is used for erysipelas. In folk medicine of the Karachay-Cherkessia region, rosehip is also taken for colds and especially for coughs. Decoction of roots is drunk for malaria and as a good crushing and dissolving agent for kidney stones. In German folk medicine, an infusion of "fruits" and a decoction of crushed "seeds" is used inside for kidney and bladder stones, and an infusion of only fruits — for beriberi. In Tibetan medicine, rosehip is used for tuberculosis of the lungs, arteriosclerosis and neurasthenia. Externally, a decoction of roots is used for baths for paralysis and" weakness " of the legs. A Decoction of dry fruits is used for baths for rheumatism.

In scientific medicine, the infusion of fruits is widely used for beriberi and as a General strengthening and increasing the body's resistance to various infectious diseases, wounds, burns, frostbite. Method of application
