Description

A perennial herb with a rosette of basal ovate-oval wrinkled wavy leaves and leafless flower stems (arrows). The flowers are small, golden-yellow,collected in umbrellas, with a gamopetalous corolla.Height 15 – 20 cm.

The time of flowering. May-June.

Habitat. It grows on forest edges, forest clearings, shrubs, meadows, as well as in light forests.

The part used. Roots, leaves, and flowers.

The time of collection. Leaves and flowers are collected in May – June, roots-in spring and late autumn.

Chemical composition

The roots contain from 5 to 10% saponins, primverin and primulaverin glucosides, ascorbic acid, carotene and essential oil. Leaves contain saponins (2%), ascorbic acid (5.9% on dry matter), carotene (up to 3 mg). The flowers contain saponins, flavonoids, and vitamin C (ascorbic acid).

Application

The plant has an expectorant, diuretic, mild laxative, sedative and spasmolytic effect. An infusion of roots, leaves and flowers is used as an expectorant for bronchitis, pneumonia and whooping cough, as well as as a diuretic and diaphoretic. Infusion of leaves or fresh leaves in the salad form is used for avitaminosis — a lack of vitamins C and a in the body.

Method of application

5 g of leaf powder to brew in 1 cup of boiling water. Drink in three doses.
