Coriander seed - Сriandrum sativum L. Umbelliferae family - Umbelliferae.
An annual herbaceous essential oil plant with a rounded, hollow, branched stem at the top. The leaves are alternate, vaginal, with a characteristic peculiar odor, the basal leaves are long-petiolar, tripartite, incised-toothed along the edge, the middle and upper leaves are sessile, twice or three times pinnately dissected into linear pointed lobules. The inflorescence is a complex umbel with three to five rays. The umbrella has no common wrappers, the private wrappers are made of three threadlike leaves. The flowers are small, white, with five petals, five stamens and an inferior two-celled ovary. Fruits are spherical brownish odorous two-seedlings. Height 30 - 45 cm.Flowering time. June - July.
Fruits contain up to 1.2% essential oil, fatty oil and a small amount of alkaloids. The essential oil contains linalool, various pinene and terpinene, fellandrenes, n-cymene, borneol and geraniol.
The fruits are used in the form of powder, water infusion and alcohol tincture. The fruits enhance the secretion of the glands of the digestive tract and have a choleretic, anti-hemorrhoid, analgesic and antiseptic effect. The fruits also stimulate the regeneration (restoration) of damaged tissues and therefore are used in folk medicine in the treatment of wounds. In scientific medicine, coriander fruits are found in various teas (antihemorrhoid, laxative and choleretic) and are used to improve the taste and smell of medicines. Coriander fruits are widely used in various branches of the food industry (fish, sausage, confectionery, brewing and liquor). Essential oil of coriander fruit is used in the perfumery industry to replace expensive lavender and bergamot oils.
Insist 3 teaspoons of coriander fruit for 15 minutes in a closed vessel in 1 glass of boiling water, drain. Take 2 tablespoons 1/2 hour before meals.
