Description

Perennial herbaceous dioecious climbing plant. The leaves are ovate, three-to five-lobed, coarse, rough. Staminate flowers are small, greenish-white, collected in a paniculate inflorescence. Female inflorescences are ovoid "cones" on female plants. Height 2 – 5 m.

The time of flowering. June-July.

Habitat. It is found in shrubs, ravines, riverbanks, and is often cultivated.

The part used. Compound fruit — "the bumps".

Chemical composition

"Cones" contain hop-tannic and Valerian acids, tri-methylamine, the alkaloid Humulin, the bitter substance lupulin, gum, resin, wax, and dye. The plant is poisonous.

Application

Hops are widely used in folk medicine. Water infusion of hop's "cones" excites the appetite, increases digestion and urine separation, calms the nervous system, reduces and stops convulsions, eases pain, reduces inflammation and has an anti-leafy, gentle laxative and light hypnotic effect. The infusion of" cones " weakens sexual activity. The infusion of "cones" is taken for kidney inflammation, bladder irritation, dropsy, gastritis, jaundice, various liver diseases and insomnia. Externally, the infusion of "cones" is used to strengthen the hair, and in the form of poultices — as a painkiller. For the treatment of gout and rheumatism, ointments are prepared from the powder of dry "cones", which are successfully used for painful ulcers. You should beware of ingesting hops, as a poisonous plant, in large doses. The cones of hops are used in brewing.

Method of application

1. A 2 teaspoons of "cones" hops insist 4 hours in 1 cup of boiling water, strain. Take 1 glass of warm infusion at night for insomnia. In other cases, take 1/4 cup 3-4 times a day for 15 minutes before meals.

2. A 1 weight part of the crushed "cones" of hops to insist 7 days in 4 weight parts of alcohol or vodka, strain. Take 5 drops of tincture with 1 tablespoon of water 2 times a day before meals (the second time at night) for insomnia.

3. Rub a 1 tablespoon of hop cones powder with 1 tablespoon of unsalted lard or fresh butter. Use as an analgesic ointment for bruises and rheumatic pain.
