Description

Perennial herbaceous plant. The leaves are alternate, relatively large, intermittently pinnate, biconvex, dark green above, white below, pubescent. The flowers are small, cream, with many stamens, strongly scented, collected in dense paniculate inflorescences. Fruits are collected achenes consisting of spirally twisted achenes. Height 60 – 180 cm.

Chemical composition

The herb contains essential oil with salicylic aldehyde, methyl salicylic ether heliotropin, vanillin, terpene, salicylic acid, wax, fat, tannins, coloring agent spirein and a lot of ascorbic acid-vitamin C (300 mg). The flowers contain essential oil (up to 0.2%), glycoside spirein and yellow coloring agent.

Application

Meadowsweet is widely used in folk medicine. The plant stops diarrhea, increases the excretion of urine and sweat, reduces inflammation, stops pain, promotes wound healing and has an antiseptic, hemostatic and anti-leaf action. An infusion of the tops of stems with leaves and flowers and an infusion of flowers is used for gout, rheumatism, stomach pain, as a diuretic for diseases of the bladder, kidneys and various types of dropsy. As a diaphoretic infusion of meadowsweet is used for colds.

In folk medicine of Siberia, an infusion of herbs with flowers is used for heart diseases, suffocation, headache, diarrhea, dysentery, and as a diuretic and anti-leaf agent. Decoction of flowers and leaves is drunk for hysterical convulsions, stomach and intestinal pain, chest and throat pain, and is used as an antitoxic agent for bites of venomous snakes. Externally, the herb decoction is used for washing wounds, abscess, ulcers, boils, for the treatment of various skin diseases and in cosmetic practice. Decoction of meadowsweet can be used in gynecological practice. Crushed fresh leaves and flowers are used as painkillers and anti-inflammatory poultices. Decoction of herbs along with flowers wash the head in order to enhance hair growth.

Method of application

1. 1 teaspoon of herb with flowers of meadowsweet insist 8 hours in 1 glass of cooled boiled water in a closed vessel, strain. Take 1/4 glass 4 times a day before meals.

2. 2 teaspoons of flowers insist 3-4 hours in 1.5 cups of boiling water in a closed container, strain. Take 1/4 glass 4 times a day before meals as a diuretic for kidney and bladder diseases, as well as for stomach pain and rheumatism and gout.

3. Strong infusions of herbs with flowers to use for washing wounds and as a cosmetic for acne.

4. Prepare a mixture of 5 g of meadowsweet leaf powder, 9 g of vaseline, 6 g of lanolin (or fresh butter), rub the mixture. Use as an ointment for skin diseases.
