Description

A perennial herbaceous rhizomatous plant with an erect stem. The leaves are alternate, oblong-elliptic, acute, and serrate. Flower baskets are Golden yellow, with marginal ligulate and median tubular flowers. Flower baskets are collected in an elongated narrow panicle. The smell of grass is slightly fragrant, the taste is bitter-astringent, spicy. Height 60 – 100 cm.

Chemical composition

Little studied. It is known that the plant contains alkaloids, saponins, tannins and coloring substances and essential oil. Inulin was found in the roots. The plant is poisonous.

Application

The Golden rod is widely used in folk medicine in various countries. The plant dissolves stones in the kidneys and bladder, reduces and relieves pain, has a diuretic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and wound healing effect. An infusion of the herb is used for gallstones, kidney and bladder diseases, as a diuretic for dropsy, diarrhea, bloody urine, scurvy, pulmonary tuberculosis, ulcers, wounds. For stomach pains, the herb decoction is drunk in sips.

In German folk medicine, herbal infusion is taken primarily for various chronic kidney diseases: kidney inflammation, kidney stones and sand, high protein content in the urine, as a diuretic for dropsy and as a remedy for rheumatism, gout and bronchial asthma. Externally, tincture of roots in the form of lotions is used as a wound healing agent for purulent wounds, cuts and ulcers. Crushed leaves applied to infected wounds help to clear them of pus and heal faster. Decoction of herbs in the form of washings, lotions are also used for purulent wounds and bone fractures, and in the form of rinses — for angina, oral diseases, to strengthen loose gums and deodorize. The internal use of the Golden rod, as a poisonous plant, requires caution. A plant gives yellow paint with flowers.

Methods of application

1. 2 teaspoons of Golden rod herb infuse for 4 hours in a closed container in 1 Cup of cooled boiled water, strain. Take 1/4 glass 4 times a day before meals.

2. 1 tablespoon of herbs infuses for 2 hours in 1 glass of boiling water, strain. Use for washing and lotions of wounds.
