Description

Perennial herbaceous rhizome plant with branched stems. Stem leaves are sessile, ovate, with a heart-shaped base, stalk-enclosing. The flowers are yellow, collected in umbrellas, surrounded by a common wrapper of three to five large ovate leaves. The fruits are dark brown oblong-elliptical two-seeded. Height 25 – 150 cm.

Chemical composition

The plant contains saponins (up to 13.4%), phytosterols (0.2%), alkaloids (0.03 – 0.07%), tannins, carotene (up to 14.7 mg), ascorbic acid (vitamin C).

Application

Both types of Bupleurum have choleretic, antiseptic, wound healing, antipyretic and tonic properties. Studies have found that Bupleurum increases the secretory activity of the stomach, pancreas and liver. It increases the amount of bile secreted, changes its chemical composition, increasing the amount of pigments, acids and cholesterol. Its action is similar to that of cumin. sand (immortelle). In folk medicine of Central Asia, a decoction of roots is used for malaria, and fresh and dry leaves are used for wound healing. In Chinese folk medicine, Bupleurum is used for various diseases of the liver and gall bladder, febrile infectious diseases, dizziness and headaches. Externally, the herb infusion is used for washing with itchy and pustular skin diseases. The plant is used in scientific medicine. The use of an aqueous infusion of herbs gives good results in the treatment of cholecystitis, angiocholitis and hepatitis. The use of Bupleurum is contraindicated in cholelithiasis.

Method of application
