Description

A perennial herb with branched stems. Leaves are small, opposite, sessile, lanceolate, slightly leathery. The flowers are blue, double-edged, collected in apical brushes. The fruits are black nuts with small spines. Height 30 – 50 cm.

The time of flowering. June-July.

Distribution. It is found in Siberia and the far East.

Habitat. Grows on dry open rocky and clay slopes.

The part used. Grass (stems, leaves, flowers) and rhizomes.

The time of collection. The grass is collected in June-July, rhizomes-in autumn.

Application

The plant has the property of reducing blood pressure and calming effect. In folk medicine, Baikal skullcap is used for heart diseases. In scientific medicine, alcohol tincture of rhizomes is used for hypertension.
